Defining Auricular Therapy and Its Benefits

If you suffer from chronic pain, substance use disorder, or chronic headaches, you may benefit from auricular therapy. Auricular therapy is simply treating the body through key points in the outer ear, the auricle. It can be used as both a means of diagnosing your ailments and as a therapeutic intervention. At Cooper Chiropractic & Acupuncture, Addiction & Injury Treatment Center, Dr. Stanton Cooper and his staff have been trained to perform this unique type of holistic healthcare treatment. As your “chiropractor near me” in Palm Bay, Dr. Cooper looks forward to helping you achieve your health goals.

Understanding Auricular Therapy

Auricular therapy is based on the concept that the ear is a microsystem of the entire body, and that points on the ear relate to points throughout the body. Auricular therapy simply but effectively involves using these key points on the ear to stimulate nerve endings/pressure points in this microsystem to balance the nervous system, unblock the flow of energy and relieve pain. There are many different ways to perform auricular therapy, including two that we provide in our office. One is the application of “Ear Seeds”, the other, Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) or “Needle Free” acupuncture, is an electrotherapy performed with our Dolphin Neurostim units.

Ear seeds are a non-invasive, safe and effective tool that consists of tiny seeds, beads, or pellets, as well as magnets, that stick to the surface of your ear with tape. They’re held in place and can stay on the ear from between three to five days. The constant pressure an ear seed exerts is amplified by gently pressing it down for a few seconds multiple times per day to treat your chronic pain or other conditions.

MPS, done with The Dolphin Neurostim units involves an electronic type of noninvasive ear acupuncture. A Dolphin Neurostim unit emits a painless DC microcurrent to the acupuncture points on the ear, stimulating the points-without the insertion of needles instantly balancing the autonomic nervous system.

Identifying the Key Benefits of Auricular Therapy

A balanced body is capable of healing itself! If Dr. Cooper determines that you are a good candidate for auricular therapy, it may be because you have one of the following issues:

  • Chronic pain
  • Substance use disorder (Ask about smoking cessation)
  • Lower back pain
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Weight issues or diabetes
  • Menstrual Cramps

These are just a few of the conditions that are treatable with auricular therapy. Auricular therapy is safe and effective, and can help you overcome or manage your health issues.

Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) protocol

Dr. Cooper is retired military, an Air Force Veteran, and quite honored to be a provider for the VA. One of the specific protocols we offer in our clinic is known as Battlefield Acupuncture. It was developed by Col. Dr. Richard Niemtzow (MD, PhD, MPH) of Andrews AFB, as a standardized protocol to provide a simple, easy to apply, nonpharmaceutical solution for the Military’s pain-management needs in the clinical and battlefield settings. The protocol involves the application of a stimulus to five key acupuncture ear points that isolates the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and central nervous system’s (CNS) role in the chronic/acute pain cycle. When these points are treated collectively, it has been reported that a wide variety of neuromyofascial pain syndromes can be relieved effectively and quickly. MPS or Earseeds applied to the five acupunctures points are an amazing solution to so many conditions, and creating overall body balance. Cooper Chiropractic patients regularly return to the clinic and request this treatment.
